![]() My cup was full from hundreds of hours in the X-COM games, but the mutant crab men had no problem at all shattering it into my face, over and over again. However, to get anywhere in Phoenix Point, I had to unlearn everything I thought I knew. They clearly have a lot in common with turn-based combat, geo-scape, base building, and research trees all culminating in fighting off a worldwide hostile threat. When looking at Phoenix Point, saying the game definitely isn’t X-COM might sound ludicrous. An experience of truly behemoth proportions. The Behemoth Edition drives that point home with the inclusion of several DLCs that can be overwhelming at first but adds undeniable value and enjoyment to the game. Not because Phoenix Point is necessarily better, but because it takes that formula and molds it into a game that is definitely not X-COM, but everything I wanted X-COM to be. In fact, I doubt I can go back to it at all. Well, after playing Phoenix Point, I’m not sure I care about X-COM anymore. Interested in a video version of this review? Check it out on YouTube! Don’t be fooled by appearances, Phoenix Point makes serious changes to the X-COM formula From the release of Chimera Squad, which carries the X-COM name without anything that makes X-COM great, to the reveal that Marvel’s Midnight Suns “won’t share a single mechanic with X-COM.” I have eagerly awaited even a sliver of news about X-COM 3 and have only been met with disappointment. X-COM 2: War of the Chosen is one of my all-time favorite games. There's no defence system for bases!! How's that possible? Overall, the game is so annoying and lot fun at all.Phoenix Point has some very big shoes to fill. When Pandorans are going to attack your base with thousands worth of facilities you should receive A BIG NOTIFUATION but instead there's just a small note on the top right corner which it's highly likely to be missed! 10. Every action and development is so expensive and doesn't really make that much difference. Armoured vehicles are totally useless! 7. I see no point in air fight! Super boring and just based on chance. There are no useful and cool research development for guns and armors. Scavenging missions are so not worth it: spending an hour of a boring fight for very little amount of resources. You don't feel like making any developments. The resources are TOOOOO scarce and super annoying. The game is very unbalanced and after playing for a few hour, fights are not fun at all but rather repetitive and annoying. The idea is great indeed and promises a lot but delivers very little. No matter what you choose, you’re in for a brutal challenge with endless replayability. Work together with different factions to unite mankind and take back the planet via Phoenix Point's diplomacy system, or crush all your rivals with military might. It’s up to you to lead Earth’s resistance: explore a ravaged planet, build your bases, research and develop new techniques and technologies, manage resources on a global scale, and fight in full-scale, turn-based tactical battles to survive. Only the Phoenix Project, a secret organization of the greatest minds and bravest soldiers left, can fight back and save the world. A mutating alien menace threatens the last remnants of mankind. Phoenix Point delivers a new breed of turn-based strategy and action. Summary: Phoenix Point delivers a new breed of turn-based strategy and action.
